Create a branding and design guideline

Customer-first mindset

Start a design system from zero.

A complete branding and website overhaul from zero.

The joys of a startup. Let's walk through the things needed to get from nothing to something.

Personas

Started with five unique personas.

Journey Mapping

After developing the personas, my team worked on what specific pages each persona would most likely visit.

Pages that the persona might want to see that we didn't have on the website originally…

Which turned into this…

Page Matrix

Deciding that their were ideally two ways to approach the site, the decision was to focus on what the products were, and who they were for. By doing this, if a company knew exactly what product they were looking for, it would be shown to them. If a company knew their industry but not necessarily what product would work for them, that would also be shown. In a double-ended funnel style, the user would come from one of the two approaches, and be directed towards demos, product information, and articles the further down they browsed.

Design System

Oh boy. While there was a prior website that could be used for research purposes and to know what not to do, the design system is what became the biggest hurdle, since it didn't exist.

This design system included: new typography, new product and brand logos and refined colour palette.

Build

Build. And Build. And Build. And Fix. And Build.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Being the Project Manager while working in different time zones is very challenging - the next "available meeting" is a minimum 48 hours away. Always waiting.

  2. Take matters into your own hands. The Wordpress development was slower than anticipated. I jumped in and did the fixes I could and the adjustments I wanted.

  3. Continuously asking everyone to critique everything. I do not want "it looks fine", I want "it looks perfect".

…one more thing

Along this journey, a 100+ page resource document was created to maintain consistency in brand and marketing content across all platforms. This document slashed the time to develop marketing related material by over 60%.
